What are the necessary documents needed?

The documents that must be provided by you are:
  • Two copies of your official school transcript.
  • One recommendation letter from your principal or counselor.
  • Two letters of introduction for your school and homestay host.
  • Two copies of your bank statement indicating enough funds to cover your study abroad (tuition, guardianship, homestay, and miscellaneous fees) for one year.
  • Two photocopies of your valid passport.
  • Appointment as Legal Guardian or Power of attorney authorizing Salvador Cabusi (Ohanaryugaku) to represent you and your parents.
  • Assumption of Risk and Release Form
  • And other documents needed by the school.

The documents that must be provided by us, homestay host, and your new school are::

  • School agreement
  • Homestay agreement
  • Guardianship agreement
  • I-20 form
  • Letter of acceptance
  • Completed visa application
  • Tuition receipt
  • Guardianship and homestay receipt

How much does it cost to attend a middle or high school for one year?

Excluding our fees, most high schools will charge a year's tuition plus ESL tuition and other fees. The average tuition is about $9500 for regular tuition and $5000 for ESL tuition and other fees.
For a language school, the average fee for a general English class is $360.00 plus registration, book, copy, and other fees.

Which school do you recommend?

Most private high schools offer English as Second Language (ESL) for students entering grades 5-9. We will locate a suitable school depending on your English level and your budget.

My English level is limited. Is it ok to apply?

Most middle and high schools will accept students regardless of their English ability but prefer students to enroll at an early age (11 or 12 years old) if they plan to graduate from a U.S. high school. Language schools will accept any level but may require you to take a placement test.

When is the best time to apply?

Most schools in Hawaii start their school year in August and end in May or June. Please apply at least four months before the start of the school year. For schools with an "Open Registration," application can be made at any time but allow at least four months for your documents to be processed.

What is the ESL program like?

The purpose of the ESL program in middle or high schoolsis to provide English instruction so that students can be successful in their regular classes and prepare for further education. Language schools offer English classes primariily for adults and their classes range from General to Business English. English classses can also be taken along with other activities such as Hula or surfing.
